American Airlines AA711 Los Angeles - New York

During it's take-off run from Los Angeles, Ameerican Airlines flight AA711, a DC10 bound for New York, experienced power problems, which affected the No1 and No2 engines. (Port and tail). The aircraft had reached take-off speed, and point of no return and was therefore commited to becoming airbourne. The Captain had to get the aircraft down as quickly and safely as possible

THE AIRCRAFT MAKES AN EMERGENCY LANDING ON THE FREEWAY, CLEARED BY STATE TROOPERS, AND LED BY A PILOT VEHICLE AT SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 125mph (200kph)
THE AIRCRAFT AND PILOT CAR, A CHEROKEE JEEP, MISSJUDGE EACH OTHER RESULTING IN THE TWO COLLIDING WITH EACH OTHER, AND THE AIRCRAFT LOOSING ITS FRONT UNDERCARRIDGE
THE DC10 TAXYING DOWN THE FREEWAY, WITH THE PILOT VEHICLE ACTING AS IS FRONT WHEELS
THE A/C CONTINUES DOWN THE FREEWAY
A LINCOLN SOMEHOW MISSED THE STATE TROOPERS CORDON, AND NARROWLY ESCAPED CONTACT WITH THE STARBOARD UNDERCARRIDGE
THE DRIVER OF THE LINCOLN CAN NOT BELIEVE HIS EYES, OR COMPREHEND HIS ESCAPE
THE DC10 COMES TO A HALT.
THE ROOF OF THE JEEP IS CRUSHED AND ITS DRIVER IS BADLY INJURED
EMERGENCY SERVICES SURROUND THE AIRCRAFT.
NO PASSENGERS WERE SERIOUSLY INJURED, ALTHOUGH A 82yr OLD WOMAN WAS TREATED FOR A MILD STROKE, AND SOME WERE TREATED FOR MINOR CUTS AND BRUISES
